Dagenham Park Church of England School

Special Educational Needs Department

Introduction

At Dagenham Park CoE School, our intention for Special Educational Needs and/ or Disabilities (SEND) is to ensure all pupils receive an aspirational and ambitious education regardless of need or disability.

At the heart of this is ‘Every teacher at Dagenham Park CoE School is a teacher of SEND’. As such, quality first teaching that is innovative and adaptive is delivered to provide an inclusive learning environment that accommodates the needs of all learners to ensure that barriers towards learning are anticipated, so they thrive and achieve their full potential.

Throughout KS3 to KS5 focus is placed on the ability and academic potential of pupils. At the same time, developing their social and emotional skills so our SEND learners are equipped to present and conduct themselves with confidence to everyday life and employment opportunity.

As a school our intentions are:

  • To identify pupils with special educational needs and learning difficulties and ensure that their needs are accommodated for as early as possible.
  • To respond to a tutor’s, teachers or parent/guardian’s concern about a pupil’s behaviour or learning abilities.
  • To ensure that parents and guardians are informed of their child’s special educational needs, progress, and attainment.
  • To ensure that there is effective communication between the families, carers and the School.
  • To ensure that learners express their views and are fully involved in decisions which affect their education.
  • As part of the school values of Believe, Grow, Succeed to ensure SEND pupils are recognised and rewarded for their achievements both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Our SEND pupils are fully included in all aspects of school life.
